Android’s best gaming phone getting a sequel this month?

The Asus ROG Phone, our favorite gaming phone of 2018, may be getting a sequel this month. Asus has apparently started sending invites for the ROG Phone 2 launch set to take place July 23 in China. Gadgets360 spotted one of the supposed Asus invites on Weibo earlier today (pictured below).

We had already been expecting a ROG phone sequel this year, but with the original device being released just last October, we suspected we’d be waiting another few months for it. The ROG Phone 2 leaks have been cropping up more frequently though — the phone has reportedly passed through several certification sites, and has been referenced in at least one other leaked promo.

Back in June, DigiTimes also suggested we’d see the phone on July 23. It seems like there’s a good chance we will.

With that being said, and though the invitation looks like the real deal, it wasn’t sent from an official Asus channel and we haven’t seen anything regarding the launch from Asus’ Western portals yet.

What’s more, the material itself doesn’t mention the ROG smartphone specifically, only the date and location of a ROG product launch (and Asus has a number of ROG branded products). We’ve contacted Asus representatives for more information and will update this article should we hear back.

As for what we can expect from the ROG Phone 2 specs, rumors suggest it will have a 120Hz display — up 30Hz on its predecessor to bring it in line with the Razer Phone 2 — while we also expect it to come with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and at least 8GB of RAM.

Who’s excited for this one? Let me know in the comments.
