Europe calling! Huawei Nova 5T with 48MP quad-cam setup, Kirin 980 incoming

Huawei Nova 5T

Huawei launched the Nova 5T in Malaysia in August. The quad-camera phone is now coming to Europe in November.

The Huawei Nova 5T is the exact same phone as the Honor 20 which was launched by Huawei’s sub-brand in May. Highlights of the phone include last year’s flagship Kirin 980 chipset and a quad camera setup led by a 48MP shooter. It also gets GPU Turbo 3.0 to handle gaming performance.

There’s a 6.26-inch full-screen display on the Nova 5T with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. It also has a punch-hole in the front housing the 32MP selfie shooter.

The Huawei Nova 5T runs EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. Interestingly, the company says that the European version of the phone “comes with full Google Mobile Services.” We don’t really know how this is possible since Huawei is still on the US Entity list banning it from using Google’s apps and services. It’s possible Huawei had the Nova 5T certified prior to the US ban, but this is just speculation for now. We will update this article if we hear anything official from Huawei.

Editor's Pick

The Nova 5T includes a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP bokeh lens. The camera array sports a bunch of shooting modes like AI HDR+ for improving photo quality and Super Night Mode for low-light photography. The 32MP high-res shooter comes with f/2.0 aperture up front.

A 3,750mAh battery powers the handset. The battery bundles support for Huawei’s 22.5W SuperCharge technology to take the battery from 0-50% in 30 minutes.

Sadly, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack on the Nova 5T. There’s also no water resistance. It does, however, have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Huawei Nova 5T price and availability

The Nova 5T comes in at £399 for a single 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model. It will be available in November through all major retailers including EE, Vodafone, O2, Carphone Warehouse, Argos, Amazon, John Lewis, and Shops Direct.
