HDR+ not enough for you? Google Pixel 4 could bring an alternative camera tool

The Google Pixel 4 leak train continues in the run-up to the October 15 launch event, and it seems like the firm is working on a hitherto-unseen camera option.

According to 9to5Google, the company is working on so-called Dual Exposure Camera Controls for the Pixel 4. So what exactly will this do?

Simply put, Dual Exposure Camera Controls will allow users to tweak the shadows and highlights in a shot before tapping the shutter key. A video obtained by the outlet (seen above) shows that users can seemingly adjust the overall exposure with a traditional slider, but there’s also a second slider. This second option allows you to adjust how light or dark the shadows are in the viewfinder.

Why would you want to use this?

It’s already possible to adjust shadows and highlights in photo editing apps, but the ability to do so before actually taking the photo is a cool move in theory. It could potentially save you the time of going into a camera app to adjust this particular setting.

Dual Exposure Camera Controls could be handy for taking pictures of people in backlit scenes (e.g. outdoors or with a window behind them), where shadows might reduce the subjects to silhouettes. It could also be useful if you just want to experiment with artsy shots.

News of this camera option also comes after numerous Pixel 4 sample images surfaced online. These images include shots seemingly taken with Night Sight and an astrophotography sample.
