Rumor: Future OnePlus device could feature wireless charging, punch-hole display
There is a new rumor stemming from CashKaro related to an upcoming OnePlus device. According to CashKaro and reliable leaker @OnLeaks, a future OnePlus device — possibly the OnePlus 8 — could feature wireless charging and a punch-hole display.
The rumor comes from a “company insider” who shared “detailed schematics” of a OnePlus device. CashKaro and @OnLeaks claim this device is the OnePlus 8, but that seems a bit dubious. After all, the OnePlus 8 would be over seven months away from launch right now, so this seems a bit early.
Usually, @OnLeaks bases his renders on CAD files from the factory, which is why his renders almost always look exactly like the real thing. However, since these renders — and the information about wireless charging — are based on “detailed schematics,” we should look at this information with much more scrutiny than usual.
That being said, here are the renders based on those schematics:
The back of the phone looks very similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro with its triple-lens camera arranged in a vertical system. The front of the device looks different, though, due to the punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro has a pop-up mechanism to avoid such a configuration.
We can’t tell from the renders anything about wireless charging, although the anonymous insider claims that the phone will launch with this feature. If true, it would be the first device from the company with wireless charging.

Now, the question remains: what is this thing? It’s very unlikely this is the true follow-up to the OnePlus 7 Pro, as it looks too similar and the move from a pop-up cam to a punch-hole cam seems like a regression rather than a progression. It’s possible this is the OnePlus 8 — the follow-up to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T. It’s also possible that this is something else entirely.
Either way, a OnePlus device with the potential for wireless charging will certainly get fans excited. What do you think this phone is? Let us know your theories in the comments.
