1. Silicon Valley
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a programming in Silicon Valley but with comedic scenes sprinkled in, this show is for you. Following the lives of a startup company and its nerdy/geeky founder, this TV series takes the audience through what it’s like to build a revolutionary compression algorithm while trying to compete with a large technology conglomerate.
The show was created by Mike Judge of Office Space fame, and you can head on over to HBO to start binging the first five seasons of Silicon Valley. The sixth and final season of the show is set to air in October 2019.
2. Barry
After a successful career as a U.S. Marine, Barry takes on the role of an unassuming hitman living in the Midwest. But after being sent to California for a job, Barry ends up finding his true calling and love at a run-down theater in Los Angeles.
You can stream the first two seasons of Barry right now. The show has been renewed for a third season, but that won’t be available until early 2020.
3. Divorce
The end of a marriage is never fun, but watching the actions of those getting a divorce can sometimes be hilarious. Although sometimes dark, this series follows a loveless couple that occasionally go out of their way to be petty towards one another.

4. Entourage
Movie stars are always surrounded by their entourage. But what do these people actually do? HBO’s Entourage follows actor Vincent Chase and his handful of best friends. Watch as the group tags along and enjoys the highlife that accompanies the newfound fame and fortune.

5. Girls
When you are looking to make it in the big time, you either move to Los Angeles or New York City. Girls is a comedy that follows four young adults as they tackle living and working in the city that never sleeps.

1. Dave Chappelle: Killin’ Them Softly
Today, Dave Chappelle is a household name, but when this HBO comedy special first aired back in 2000 he was an up-and-coming comedian. He largely explores the same themes here as he would later in The Chappelle Show, and they’re just as topical now as they were nearly 20 years ago.

2. The Station Agent
Long before he would star as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage starred in this independent drama/comedy movie. Ostracized from society for being his dwarfism, he moves to an old rural railway station to live in solitude. But his new neighbors are insistent on becoming his friend, and he slowly comes out of his shell.
The Station Agent won numerous independent film awards when it was released in 2003, and you can stream it right away on HBO.
3. Grosse Pointe Blank
This black comedy film starring a young John Cusack is about a professional hit man who returns to his hometown to attend his 10 year high school reunion. As he reconnects with his high school sweetheart, another assassin is on his case.
Grosse Pointe Blank is a thrilling movie with sharp wit, making it one of the best comedy movies available on HBO.
4. Annie Hall
Woody Allen movies can be hit or miss, but virtually everyone can find something to love in his 1977 classic Annie Hall. It’s essentially the same story as all of his films: a man (played by Woody Allen) has a romantic relationship with a young woman (Diane Keaton in this case), and wacky situations and hilarious one-liners ensue.
Allen has never been better than in Annie Hall, and you can stream it right away on HBO.
5. American Splendor
American Splendor is a biographical HBO comedy-drama about Harvey Pekar (played by Paul Giamatti), an underground comic book writer known for the long-running comic of the same name. Like his comics, the film explores the daily grind that we all experience, switching back and forth between reality and comic-style animations.
The film is made even more meta with appearances by the real Pekar and self-references to the making of the movie itself. You can stream it on HBO at the link below.
