This was kind of a slow week for Apple news but there were still some interesting nuggets of info. For example, we found out that the market share of the iPad jumped up quite a bit recently, once again proving that the tablet market is essentially Apple’s.

We also saw some news regarding iOS 13.3 updates, the DxOMark review score for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and some interesting news regarding the forthcoming AR headset that might get a touch from Valve.

See the Apple news roundup below for all the latest.

The top Apple news stories of the past week:

  • Apple continues to dominate the tablet market with the iPad: At this point, rival tablet makers might as well concede to Apple as the juggernaut shows no signs of slipping when it comes to tablet market share. The iPad jumped up 4% in market share this past quarter as compared to the same time last year, putting it (once again) head-and-shoulders above all competitors.
  • iOS 13.3 could fix multitasking issues: The first beta of iOS 13.3 seeded out to developers this week. Preliminary reports suggest it fixes the problem of iOS killing background apps for the sake of memory management, which is likely a welcome fix for iPhone users.
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max can’t beat Huawei or Xiaomi: The DxOMark rear camera photography score for the highest-end iPhone 11 Pro Max is a very respectable 117. However, that’s much lower than the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro, both of which have rear scores of 121.
  • The EU might be coming for Apple Pay: European Union Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager might be coming for Apple Pay. According to Reuters, Vestager is looking into whether or not Apple is being anti-competitive by locking down the iPhone NFC chip to just Apple Pay.
  • Apple and Valve could be working together: There’s a new rumor that Valve — creator of the ubiquitous gaming store known as Steam — could be working with Apple on the development of an AR headset. The headset is expected to launch in 2020.
  • Several Apple TV Plus exclusive shows get renewed for second seasons: We already knew “The Morning Show” would see a second season, but now we know that several other shows that are exclusive to Apple TV Plus will get second seasons, too. The list includes “See,” “For All Mankind,” and “Dickinson.”
