Screenshots of Android 4.4, Kitkat, Leak Out Courtesy of Reddit User

So, according to numerous sources across the web, today is the day that Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5 officially grace the Internet with their presence. After months of leaks and teases, we should certainly think so, too! Even if the 31st is Google’s day, that hasn’t stopped the leaks from hitting the web. Reddit user, with the brilliant username of “throwawaynexus5guy” has a Nexus 5 in his possession and now, he’s been so kind as to  share with us some screenshots of Android 4.4 in action . As you might expect, the shots are similar to that of previous leaks and seem to be showing off an updated Holo look which was refined throughout the Jelly Bean releases and seems a little bit more colorful than previous releases. One particularly interesting shot is off the search bar that asks users to just say “OK Google” which suggests that always listening is coming to the Nexus 5 and it always goes hand in hand with the “OK Glass” tagline of Project Glass. Throughout the Jelly Bean releases, we

Android 4.4 Code Reveals Even More Bluetooth Features in KitKat

Image
It seems like a little bit of Android 4.4 code is leaking out everyday. Today it’s coming from the same folks that have gotten their hands on the logs already. Which is Myce.com. They’ve already found out that OIS will be part of the camera in Android 4.4 and a few other things. Now it looks like there’s more Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE along with a “Bluetooth Password vault”. In the code, Myce found that there was a line “code.google.android.authenticator.bluetooth.RemoteAccessService”. These guys also found some information regarding a Bluetooth Password Vault, and several times BPV was mentioned, which we’d assume is an abbreviation for Bluetooth Password vault. Of course as expected, there were plenty of mentions of Bluetooth Low Energy, which is officially supported as of Android 4.3. Along with Proximity Awareness. That’s nothing new for Bluetooth devices, since that is the key to pairing devices together. The two devices have to be able to contact each other, and use an unique a

Leaked Images of Supposedly Android 4.4 KitKat

Image
Last night we found a few Android 4.4 images. Mainly of the dialer and Messaging apps. Now there are a few more images that have cropped up, depicting Android 4.4 on what appears to be a Nexus 4. Now we aren’t sure if this is the Nexus 4 that was released last year, or if they’ll be calling the new Nexus coming next month the Nexus 4 as well. They did it with the Nexus 7, so it wouldn’t surprise me. The images here show us some new icons too. They all look more flat, similar to the new Google logo, which looks really nice in my opinion. The status bar is also different now. It appears to change colors to match the app that you are currently in. Which is a nice touch, although I think I’d rather have a transparent status bar like Touchwiz and LG has in their launcher. In these pictures you can see a different looking status bar in each one. And it looks like some apps have a gray navigation bar while others are still black. It would be cool if that changed per app as well. It’s defin

Nestle Confirms That Android 4.4 KitKat Will Launch Next Month

Image
Over the past few weeks, plenty of leaks and rumors have surfaced, suggesting that Google is planning to launch its latest version of the Android operating system, KitKat, along with the ‘Nexus 5’ next month. And now, as if confirmation was needed, a comment has been made on the official German KitKat Facebook page confirming that the new OS will debut in October. The above image was posted on KitKat Germany’s Facebook profile, and the 11th comment, which was from KitKat, says, “Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar.” For those who don’t speak German, this translates to, “Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available from October.” Leaks, rumors and speculation suggests that the Android 4.4 build will bring the following changes to our KitKat compatible devices: Firmware availability to older phones Fragmentation changes (screen resizing) Miracast updates New Gallery Visualisation New APIs regarding animations Change android default blue to other preset palette colours New

Android 4.4 KitKat Design: Keyboard and Phone App Redesigned

Image
The folks over at  9to5Google  have just posted a couple of screenshots of what they believe to be pictures of a redesigned phone and messaging app, probably coming in Android 4.4. We’ve seen in the past that Google has been moving towards a lighter theme. A good example of that is the Google Play Store and Google Now. We know Android 4.4 is due to be announced in October, and we’ve already seen what we thought was a leak about new icons. Not really new, but instead of blue, they are now gray. Which you can’t really tell in the images in this post, but they do appear to be gray. It also looks like Google took a hint from Paranoid Android. As in the Messaging app, you’ll notice the status bar is green, like the messaging icon, and blue in the Phone app, like the header and bottom of the app. Also in the Messaging app, you’ll notice that Mr Jingles is there. He’s from the Google+ notification tray. I wonder if you tap him, if he’ll jingle like he does on Google+? As 9to5Google states, yo

Android 4.4 KitKat to have 64-Bit Support

Image
It was just last week when our friends up in Cupertino announced that the iPhone 5S will be launching with 64 bit support. Apple may not be the only player in town when it comes to adapting the 64 bit architecture on a mobile phone. Thanks to a photo that was reportedly taken at an Intel Developer Forum, 64bit support is slated as a future enhancement to Android. Although the word “Kit Kat” was not in the photo, if true, the timing may not be a coincidence. If this photo is legitimate, we may have also gotten our first glimpse of some of the changes that may be appearing in Android 4.4 Kit Kat including NDK Apps Bridging Technology and a Highly Tuned Dalvik Runtime. If these features are correct, they will help speed up the execution of applications. It is important to note that if Android 4.4 Kit Kat does indeed implement initial support for 64 bit processing, you will need to have a device that can take advantage of the new architecture to run in 64 bit mode. So no, your Nexus 4 (
