BBM For Android & iOS Hits 5 Million Downloads In Just 8 Hours

Image
Who cares? That’s the question I was asked time and time again when I told people that BBM was coming to Android and iOS. But it seems a lot of people care. In fact, when BBM finally made its cross-platform debut yesterday, the app was downloaded over 5 million times in just eight hours. Because BlackBerry isn’t in a great place right now, and BlackBerry devices are no longer “cool,” most people assume no one uses BBM anymore. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. The service still has 60 million users worldwide, and it’s still considered one of the best instant messaging platforms there is — especially now that it’s no longer exclusive to BlackBerry handsets. But with the likes of WhatsApp, Line, and Viber already doing so well, do we really need BBM on Android and iOS? Yes! Another option doesn’t hurt, and lots of people who use Android and iOS devices may wish to communicate with friends who still own BlackBerry handsets with BBM . What’s more, a lot of Android and iOS u

BBM for Android Officially Coming Today with a Virtual Line

That’s right, after all this waiting, Blackberry Messenger is officially coming today. Blackberry has announced that this afternoon, they are launching the BBM app on Google Play, the Apple App Store, and the Samsung App Store for all to use. The once incredibly popular chat service is finally going cross platform, and despite the negativity towards BBM, we’re still excited to try it. There is still a catch to the release. Not everyone will be able to use BBM today, so you’ll have to be quick about downloading the app. As soon as it’s released, install it and enter your email address. You’ll be added to a virtual line of people waiting to use the service. If you signed up previously at BBM.com, you won’t have to wait. Considering how many people swarmed BBM servers when the app was last leaked, Blackberry wants to slowly ease the entire population onto BBM. This may be smart from a server standpoint, but will it drive people away not having friends using BBM on launch day? The releas

BlackBerry Messenger is one of those Blackberry features that’s the only reason why Blackberry still has any market share. However, it’s great that Blackberry is beginning to see things the way that Google has, and that’s to get their services on as many platforms, thus as many devices, as possible. Earlier this year, Blackberry announced that their messaging app, BBM, would be making its way to Android and iOS this summer. And boy are they cutting it close. BBM is launching on Android on September 21st and iOS on September 22nd. So what kind of features are we going to see? Well let’s see what our friends in Waterloo have in store for us with the new BBM app: BBM Chat  – Enjoy real, immediate conversations with friends on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. Not only does BBM let you know that your message has been delivered and read, i

Pulled Samsung Ad Reveals BBM for Samsung Galaxy Devices

Samsung is renowned for the sheer number of custom apps and services that the include with their phones, and while some might be more useful than others, no one can deny that they offer a wide bevy of options to use.  Thankfully Android lets you disable any apps you don’t want on your phone if they can’t be uninstalled, but sometimes a pre-installed app is more useful than anything you can get on the Play Store.  Case in point with Blackberry Messenger, or BBM as many know it.  Many people have used BBM in the past and have loved it, but with the Blackberry era officially over and the company in shambles, will BBM really have what it takes to turn the tide for the aging brand?  Samsung certainly thinks so, and it looks like they have officially inked a deal with Blackberry to include BBM on all Samsung Galaxy phones.  What does this mean for Samsung’s own ChatOn service?  There’s really no telling, but knowing Samsung they won’t discontinue any of these products anyway.  Samsung Ghana’
