Microsoft Already Testing Prototype Google Glass Type Headset

Microsoft Glass – nay, it just doesn’t quite have the same ring as Google Glass, but if Microsoft has its way, people may soon be sporting a Microsoft/Nokia type Glass device.  According to the  Wall Street Journal  (WSJ), Microsoft has already been tapping some Asian suppliers for prototype components, and is already testing web-connecting eyewear, similar to Google’s Glass. Google’s Glass is well-known to even the generally public, not just the “Glassholes,” that own and are testing the Expedition Edition.  They are on the evening news and many articles have been written about Glass in the technical journals, WSJ, and other major publications.  Some of the news is fascinating and the excites the senses at the possibilities of what applications Glass can be applied, yet other reports paint Glass as an invasion of privacy and they have already been banned in several places.  Whatever your feelings are about wearable headgear and other devices, they are coming soon, probably sometime

DoCoMo to showcase Google Glass competitor at CEATEC 2013

These days everyone and their mama are talking about Google Glass and other wearable gadgets. And yes, we expect to see many similar products unveiled in the near future. We know that Vuzix is working on something like this and so do Epson. And now NTT DoCoMo is joining the action, as reported by  GforGames . Japan’s leading mobile operator will showcase its “Intelligent Glass” at CEATEC 2013, which is a local equivalent of CES. The carrier’s  press release  (in Japanese) says that its “glasses-type wearable device” will incorporate some fancy features like face recognition and character recognition / translation. In addition, it will boast two types of interfaces: “Anything” and “Spatial.” We’re not sure what each of these does but it has something to do with augmented reality and virtual keyboards. If there’s one market that can “handle” wearable devices like Google Glass that would be Japan. Local carriers are known to heavily subsidize handsets and they could easily end-up offer
