Windows Phone 8 GDR2 appears to fix low-resolution profile images for Me tile

Image
One of the bugs that some of us noticed on Windows Phone, possibly starting after the GDR1 OS update , was a fuzzy and low resolution image of ourselves for the Me tile. It was particularly frustrating on devices with high resolution displays, as everything would look sharp and crisp except for your blurry mini me. Despite re-uploading the photo numerous times, the service, tied to your Live/Outlook account, would downgrade the image and push back a fuzzy version within a few hours.

Samsung Overclocking the GPU and CPU on their Galaxy S4 When you Run Benchmarking Apps? Pretty Creative

Image
By now we all know the Galaxy S4 like the back of our hand. The US version runs the Snapdragon 600 while the International version is running on the Exynos 5 Octa processor. The Exynos 5 Octa GPU runs at 480MHz. Until you are running a Benchmarking app. Back in February, a forum member at Beyond3D suggested that Samsung overclocks their GPU to 532MHz while you’re running benchmarking tests that are intended to show off how powerful the device is. Then throttling it to just 480MHz when you’re actually using it. In fact, Anandtech recently tested and researched on these claims and discovered code that Samsung uses to speed up the processor when you’re running popular speed testing suites like GLBenchmark, AnTuTu or Quadrant. Some may think that this is Samsung simply cheating benchmarks. Which it kind of is. As the GPU is even marketed as running at 480MHz and not 532MHz. Now how many of us buy devices based on the benchmarks? Probably not too many of us. I know I don’t. AnandTech also

GoPro iOS App Gets Updated, Makes It Easy To Watch And Share Videos

Image
As you can tell by doing a quick YouTube search, the GoPro is pretty awesome. It records beautiful looking action videos from a first person perspective, and it has pretty much become the standard for any athlete trying to record footage of themselves. The Go Pro companion app for iOS has now been updated to let users do even more with their GoPro. Users can now stream and watch video from their GoPro directly on their iPhone, and can then save the video onto their phone itself, all through Wi-Fi. Now after you videotape yourself doing something crazy on your GoPro, you can simply pull out your iPhone, go to the GoPro app, and watch it. If you like the video, you can copy it over to your phone’s storage, and if you really like it, you can now easily upload this content to social sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Here’s the complete list of changes included in update 2.0: - View photos and play back videos - Copy photos and videos to a GoPro album on your iPhone, iPad or iPod

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Prototype Leaks – Shows It’s Another Big Phone

Image
We’re getting closer and closer to the launch and announcement of the Galaxy Note 3. We’re expecting Samsung to launch the Galaxy Note 3 in early September at IFA in Berlin, so we still have another month full of rumors, leaks and reports. This time someone has posted pictures of a prototype of the Galaxy Note 3 on “China’s Twitter” Weibo . While we can’t tell much from the device, we can definitely see that it’s still going to be a huge device. Which is nothing we didn’t expect. This prototype appears to be an engineering unit and looks pretty far from being the final thing. This could be one of the designs that Samsung is using to hide the actual design of the device. Which wouldn’t be the first time, in fact many OEMs do that. There is also mention of the design having an “alignment style like the i9100″ which was the Galaxy S2. As you can see there’s a physical home button in the middle as usual. On the back, there appears to be a slot for the S Pen which is one of the major featu

Need to post to Instagram from your Windows Phone? Here are two methods that do work

Image
With the recent "security changes" from Instagram, causing all third party apps from being blocked from posting , we figured we’d recap at least two ways that we know of that still work. Think of these as your permanent fail-safes in case this is a prolonged outage or as a temporary solution until Daniel Gary (Instance) and others figure out a way around the problem. To recap, using apps like Instance allows users to post to their Instagram account, but after about fifteen seconds, the image is deleted. That means somehow Instagram has flagged images uploaded by unauthorized apps in a clever way that has befuddled developers so far. But you can still post via other apps—one official, the other a hack.
