Telegram app update adds voice calling features for Western Europe

Image
Telegram , one of the most popular mobile messaging apps, is beginning to add a much requested feature. The app is now rolling out its Voice Call features for users in Western Europe, with the promise that it will be added in other parts of the world in the near future. See also: Best video chat apps for Android 3 weeks ago As with its text chats, Voice Call in Telegram is supposed to offer end-to-end safe and encrypted audio chats. It uses the Diffie-Hellman key exchange to ensure that calls cannot be intercepted. In fact, it actually uses emoji to let users know their Telegram call is safe. An example of this is shown below. Basically, if you and the person you are talking to see the same four emoji, your chat should be encrypted. Voice Calls in Telegram will use a peer-to-peer connection for the most part, but for some reason one cannot be made, the app will instead use the closest server to you to connect your call. The company also claims that the app will use a ne

Google Allo could get a ‘quick selfie’ button among other new features

Google is constantly updating its messaging app, and the latest report claims that Allo might be getting a dedicated “quick selfie” button as well as a backup and restore feature. And of course, what would a Google Allo update be without a slew of new stickers ? See also: Are you one of the 10 million who have installed Google Allo? December 15, 2016 While it’s a small addition to the app, I do wish that a) this does officially come to Google Allo and b) other messaging apps would follow. According to 9to5Google, there are some new features embedded within Google Allo that just haven’t been enabled yet. And one of them is a “quick selfie” button right inside your messaging box. Simply tap on the camera button, and a circular preview screen will pop up with a shutter button. Once you take a selfie, you can either send it or get rid of it. While it’s a small addition to the app, I do wish that a) this does officially come to Google Allo and b) other messaging apps wou

What could be better than cats? Cats in vehicles battling it out

Image
And that’s exactly what CATS: Crash Arena Turbo Stars is, the latest game from the creator of the insanely popular game Cut the Rope . As you can see from the video above, the idea is pretty straightforward: you are a street cat, and you must build your own vehicle to fight with other vehicles. You start off with an unflattering wooden car, but as you progress, with either in-game currency or in-app purchases, you can upgrade your fleet with more menacing gadgets – from soda pop bottles to chainsaws. The goal? Destroy your opponents’ vehicles in one-on-ones to reach Crash Arena, the highest league in the game where you can become the champion. The goal? As the CEO of ZeptoLab Misha Lyalin explains, the idea is you have to build a vehicle that is not only powerful enough to destroy your opponent’s but also durable enough to withstand a lot

Samsung killing the physical home button is a big deal

Image
Since the original Galaxy S, the physical home button has been a staple of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphones, a key part of the company’s mobile design language, and a tactile feature prefered by many. The arrival of the Galaxy S5 saw the home button take on a new role as the hub for the company’s fingerprint scanner, making the feature a key part of Samsung’s Knox security platform as well. But the  Galaxy S8 does away with one of Samsung Mobile’s most recognisable calling cards, instead leaving the bezel-less design of the handset to market the brand all by itself. It’s a bold move, and one that is likely to win over as many fans as it frustrates the old faithful. Either way, there’s little denying that the Galaxy S8’s design stands out from your typical smartphone, and I don’t think that Samsung’s flagship tier is going to suffer a major crisis of identity without the home button.
