The Verge Andy Rubin’s Essential just launched its first smartphone , and to say that it’s controversial is a bit of an understatement. There’s plenty to like about the Essential Phone, but also a few curious omissions and one design choice that is very hard to gloss over, whether you like it or not – that front-facing camera that cuts into the screen. The Essential Phone’s design definitely stands out, but it’s not completely unique. A recently discovered patent suggests LG is working on phones with a similar design. The patent in question depicts a phone with a centrally-positioned front camera that cuts into a “bezel-less” screen with rounded corners. Windows and Android divide grows smaller: Snapdragon 835-powered PCs incoming

Smartphone, laptop and desktop systems are already starting to collide thanks to the likes of 2-in-1 tablets , Google Play apps in Chrome OS , and Microsoft rolling out new Android and iOS compatible features . Now, Qualcomm has taken the next step in that direction with the announcement that future “Mobile PCs” are going to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chip. The news comes straight from Computex 2017 in Taipei, where ASUS, HP, and Lenovo have all been confirmed to release Snapdragon-powered PC systems. We don’t know specifics about the upcoming devices just yet, but the Windows 10 machines are said to provide long-lasting battery life, LTE connectivity thanks to Qualcomm’s X16 LTE modem, and native support for the Windows suite of applications (with x86 emulation). “With Gigabit LTE, imagine downloading a Full HD movie in a matter of seconds,” says Don McGuire, Vice President of Global Product Marketing at Qualcomm in the promo video above. Mobile game based on Vikings TV show coming in 2018

Are you a fan of the Vikings TV show? If so, you have something to look forward to next year. Hugo Games has partnered with MGM Interactive to release a game based on this television series. We know it will come to Android, iOS and Steam, but details on gameplay are scarce. It will be a player versus player strategy game, and will feature some of your favorite characters, including Ragnar, Lagertha, Floki and Rollo. It is also said to feature “impressive graphics and a memorable soundtrack”. Of course, there will also be a touch of medieval drama and adventure. Nest Cam IQ is a high-end security camera with some serious brain power

Nest has announced the new Cam IQ indoor security camera that brings a bunch of new features to the table when compared to its predecessor. It has an 8 MP 4K sensor with 12x digital zoom and also comes equipped with two 940 nm infrared LEDs for night vision. The camera has a new and improved speaker on board that is, at least according to the company, seven times more powerful than the one found on the standard Nest Cam. It sports three microphones with noise as well as echo cancellation and is made from a special plastic that helps disperse heat. Lenovo is gearing up to release another smartphone under the Moto brand. Well-known leaker Roland Quandt has recently revealed a lot of details regarding the upcoming smartphone on Twitter, which is called the Moto E4. Essential Phone to start shipping in late June with a new digital assistant on board

Yesterday, Andy Rubin took the wraps off the Essential Phone . Although a lot of details regarding the device were shared with the public, the exact release date was not mentioned during the reveal. Thankfully, we now know when the Essential Phone will hit the market, as Andy Rubin has announced a specific time frame at Code Conference 2017. The Essential Phone will officially go on sale within the next 30 days. This means it should be available towards the end of June. The smartphone is already up for pre-order in the US and can be yours for $699. Additionally, Andy Rubin also said that the device will have a new digital assistant on board. It will go head to head with Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby, although not a lot details are known about it at this point. One thing that’s for sure is that it will have to bring a few new features to the table if it has any chance of competing against its rivals.
