Sprint 5G: Testing Sprint’s new network in Dallas

Image
Sprint and its carrier competitors have spent much of the last two years building anticipation for 5G . Now that 5G is here, it’s hard to tell if the reality matches the fever-pitch hype. Sprint lent us an LG V50 ThinQ to spend testing 5G in and around the Dallas metroplex, which is one of the carrier’s 5G launch cities (the others include Atlanta, Houston, and Kansas City). With a map of coverage points and 5G hardware in hand, we put the network to the test. Here’s what we found. Targeting the average Sprint says its 5G network can deliver peak speeds in the neighborhood of 1Gbps. That’s the unspoken promise the industry has long made to consumers — gigabit speeds. Engineers we spoke to in Dallas said the quickest download speeds they’ve seen on Sprint 5G do in fact border 1.1Gbps. That’s fast, no doubt, but Sprint isn’t focusing on peak speeds and consumers shouldn’t expect to see gigabit 5G. At least, not yet. Instead, Sprint has focused its efforts on creating a more con

Earlier today, 91mobiles reported that HMD Global sent out invites for a June 6 event in Milan, Italy. Samsung Galaxy Note 10: All the rumors in one place (Updated May 30)

Image
Update, May 30, 2019 (01:45 PM ET): There are rumors that the Note 10 could drop the headphone jack, which would be a serious blow to Samsung fans. There’s also rumors it will ship with capacitive buttons and a 5x optical zoom system. Read on for more! Original article, April 3, 2019 (01:09 PM ET):  Now that the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10 is done, it’s time to look forward to the next flagship smartphone from the world’s largest mobile OEM: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Usually, Samsung launches the latest entry in the S line earlier in the year and then launches the newest entry in the Note line towards the end. While the S line usually has the latest processor and tons of premium features, the Note line is usually just as powerful but with even more features thrown in. This makes the Note line the most expensive on Samsung’s roster (aside from the Samsung Galaxy Fold , which still doesn’t have a release date). Editor's Pick Samsung Galaxy Note 9 review: In pr

Uh-oh: Galaxy Note 10 might not have headphone jack, physical keys

Image
An anonymous source speaking with  Android Police suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will abandon two things that every Note device has had since Day 1: a headphone jack and physical buttons. Allegedly, Samsung is planning on launching the Note 10 without a headphone jack and with capacitive (touch-based) buttons in place of “clicky” power, volume, and Bixby buttons. If this rumor turns out to be true, the Note 10 would be the first flagship smartphone from Samsung without the much-beloved audio port (aside from the Samsung Galaxy Fold , which still doesn’t have a release date). This will no doubt ruffle the feathers of Samsung fans who have long-championed the company for not dropping the port while rivals — such as Apple, Google, and OnePlus — leave it behind.
