Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is easier to fix than Motorola Razr, but not by much

Image
iFixit Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip launched alongside the Galaxy S20 series last week, offering a rather intriguing take on the foldable phone. But what if you want to repair the device yourself? Well, iFixit has conducted a teardown, and posted its findings online. The repair website declared the Galaxy Z Flip teardown to be “considerably less complex” than that of the Razr , which scored an abysmal one out of ten . But it’s not much better, getting a repairability score of just two out of ten. Read: How much does it cost to replace a foldable phone’s screen? iFixit praised the device for requiring a single Phillips screwdriver for all the screws, as well as the modular nature of some components (allowing them to be replaced individually). But the firm criticized Samsung for using glued-down glass panels, offering “unnecessarily difficult” battery replacements, and folding-related components that are likely to wear down as time goes on. OnePlus series tipped to (finally) offer a proper water resistance rating

91Mobiles OnePlus phones are generally considered some of the best smartphones on the market in terms of sheer value for money. Unfortunately, some features like wireless charging and an IP rating were cut in order to get to a palatable price point. Now, frequent tipster Max J has tweeted a concept image, suggesting that the OnePlus 8 series will gain a significant IP rating (i.e. IP67 or IP68). Check it out below. pic.twitter.com/laO3szAcsM — Max J. (@MaxJmb) February 15, 2020 The tweet is merely a concept image from an unofficial source once again, so we have to take everything with a grain of salt. But the leaker created a similar image earlier this year to convey that the OnePlus 8 Pro might get wireless charging. And we’ve since seen a few leaks and suggestions that the feature is indeed coming. 120Hz or QHD? Samsung Galaxy S20 series might not make you choose anymore

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series marks the first time Samsung adopts a higher refresh rate in its phones, topping out at 120Hz. Unfortunately, this high refresh rate can only be used at FHD+ resolutions, even though the Galaxy S20 phones offer QHD+ screens. So you essentially have to choose between the highest resolution or a high refresh rate. Fortunately, noted tipster and XDA writer Max Weinbach confirmed on Twitter that Samsung is currently testing the ability to use the 120Hz refresh rate at QHD+ resolution. Furthermore, Weinbach says a firmware update to enable this feature could be released in up to three months’ time. Samsung is working on optimizing software for WQHD+ 120hz on the S20 series and should release it in the next 1-3 months if all goes well. — Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) February 18, 2020 It’s believed that Samsung initially opted against offering 120Hz at QHD+ resolution due to battery life concerns. After all, a higher refresh rate already requires more ju
