10 best new Android apps of June 2016
App developers are pushing the envelope on a daily basis trying to improve and enhance our smartphone and tablet experiences. In fact, so many Android apps come out every day that it’s difficult to keep track of them all. It’s difficult to usurp the best of the best but if you’re getting bored with what you’ve got and want to try something new, check out the best new Android apps from the last month!
Bitly

Bitly, one of the most popular link-shortening websites on the Internet, released their official application this month. With it, you can shorten links quickly straight from your mobile device and share them easily wherever you need to. The app also includes various analytics so you can see how many clicks your links get, who is clicking them, and more. It’s wrapped up in Material Design, it’s easy to use, and it’s completely free. The only downside is that you have to make an account to use it.
Evie

Evie is an Android launcher app that tries to keep it simple. It operates a lot like the launcher for iOS where you put your most important apps on the main home screen. From there, you use the universal search function to launch apps, make web searches, find contacts, and various other activities. There is also a spot where you can quickly check out widgets. It’s not all that different than Google Now Launcher, but it’s a good alternative if you don’t use Google Now or you want something more minimal. It’s also completely free for now.
Expeditions

Expeditions is one of two educational apps that Google released this month. This one focuses more on VR and 360-degree video experiences and includes a ton of locations that you can check out. You’ll be able to take part in tours of these environments or you can host your own tour. This is especially great for classroom environments and it’s even better if you have Google Cardboard handy. It’s completely free with no in-app purchases which is a cherry on the proverbial sundae.
Discogs

Discogs is an app that helps you track down and organize your physical music collection. The app does a total of three things. It helps you organize your collection so you can quickly see what you have and you can even have it priced to see what it’s worth. You can also use the search to find local record stores so you can go hunting for the next piece of your collection. Finally, you can search for albums that you want and it can help you find them. It’s a must-try app for music collectors and it’s completely free to use.
Google Arts and Culture

Google Arts and Culture is the second of two educational apps that Google released this month. This one features various art exhibits, places, and landmarks that you can check out. It features content from over 850 museums and archives and many of them are shown in high quality, 360-degree imagery. On top of having an impressive collection, the app has various tools for you to sort and search for your favorite pieces. You can also save them to collections to quick recall at a later date. Like Expeditions, this is completely free with no in-app purchases.
Mobcrush

Mobcrush is a video streaming platform made specifically for gamers. It works by streaming your screen directly to the Internet so that you can broadcast the games that you’re playing. Alternatively, you can use the app to to watch other people stream their games. It’s made for mobile and you’ll be able to watch stuff like Clash Royale tournaments, Minecraft, Vainglory, Hearthstone, and other popular mobile games. It’s a free app and it only takes a few minutes to get signed up.
ParcelTrack

ParcelTrack is a nifty little app that lets you track packages. This is most useful if you ship a lot of stuff to other people or if you receive a lot of packages from various places. It’s draped in Material Design and it’s quite easy to use. All you have to do is tell it which carrier you’re using and the tracking number and it does the rest. The free version is functional and the pro version adds some features such as push notifications for tracking updates, a barcode scanner, and syncing between devices.
PlayStation Vue Mobile

PlayStation Vue Mobile is the mobile app for Sony’s new TV streaming service. It comes with three pricing plans which include 55, 70, and 100 channels respectively. The channels range from standard TV stuff like NBC, AMC, Cartoon Network, and others along with less known channels like Machinima and Epix. The app is having a rough start, but future updates should fix most of the problems. The app itself is a free download and you can get a free trial to check it out if you want to.
Swiftmoji

Swiftmoji is the latest app out of Swiftkey and the first since Microsoft purchased the company earlier this year. This is a keyboard that tries to predict which emoji you want to use and when you want to use them. It puts emoji at the forefront so you can find them more quickly and efficiently. Otherwise, it’s a pretty standard keyboard app. For now, the app only supports English although we wouldn’t be shocked if more languages came out in the coming months. For now, it’s a free app.
Vysor

Vysor is a screen casting application that allows you to cast your Android device’s screen to your desktop or laptop. The way it works is that you install the app and then the Chrome extension. After a little bit of a set up, you’ll be able to see your screen directly on your computer screen. You’ll also be able to interact with it using your mouse and keyboard. It’s definitely good enough to use apps and even play some games. The app is free while the Chrome extension has a pro version that you can buy.
