LG recently settled a lawsuit launched by smartphone who were plagued by bootlooping issues.Those affected who joined the lawsuit must file a “Proof of Claim” survey by February 12 to get the full rebate or cash amount.As of this writing, the survey and the settlement page has been taken down. For the first time in 25 years, Intel is no longer the world’s top chipmaker by revenue.Samsung knocked Intel off its perch by posting $67 billion in revenue for 2017.The switch underlines the growth of mobile chips and Samsung’s increasing presence in the computing space. Intel might have dominated the chipset market for a quarter of a century, but Samsung has officially taken over the top spot for the first time in company history, reports TechCrunch.According to the South Korean outfit, its chipset division made $67 billion in revenue for 2017. By comparison, Intel reported $62.8 billion in total revenue for the year, a six percent increase from 2016. In other words, 2017 might have been a record year for Intel, but it was not enough to hold back Samsung from becoming number one.To be clear, this is not a one-for-one comparison. Sharp Corp., Japan has announced the company’s next Android One phone, the Sharp Android One S3. As the name suggests, it is Sharp’s low-cost Android One offering and will be available in Japan via Y! Mobile in four colors. The phone comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and sports a fairly modest spec sheet. The Android One S3 is a successor to the Sharp X1, which was part of the Android One program in 2017.The Android One S3 is powered a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage that can be expanded via microSD card. The phone features a 5-inch 1080p IGZO display, which has not yet embraced the (near) bezel-less philosophy. However, the company is touting vivid images thanks to the S-Pure LED backlight. A 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera help with the imaging. The title will launch on February 1 in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, before moving further West in the following weeks. Tekken Mobile will hit the U.K., Germany, France, Spain and other European nations on February 15, before landing in the U.S. on March 1. Bandai Namco says it has received “1,500,000 pre-registrations” for the title already, and to celebrate, has revealed a new mobile exclusive character. Update (01/31): LG’s PR machine has been sending mixed messages ever since the company announced it was dialing back its release schedule. Despite the confusion surrounding the LG G7’s status (Is it delayed? Is it being redesigned? Is it still called the LG G7?), an LG official has now confirmed that the LG V30 variant rumored for launch at MWC 2018 is definitely happening. Talking to reporters at an Innofest event in Cape Town (thanks, GearBurn), managing director for LG Electronics South Africa, CY Kim, said: “We will introduce at MWC for V30… upgraded version (sic).” Kim also apparently said that the G7 would be a “little bit late”, which is about as non-committal as it gets. The leak arrives via WinFuture [translated], which suggests that the handset will come with a 5.7-inch, IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ 1440 x 720 resolution. In addition, the phone is expected to include an octa-core, MediaTek MT6750 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage space (plus microSD support).On the back is said to be a single 12 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, while the front would be home to a dual 13 MP + 5 MP camera setup (with 1.4 µm sensor and 120-degree wide-angle lens). This would support the trending Face Unlock feature, too.
