The company’s press release does have some fine print to this price cut, however. Unlimited users will have a speed cap of 1.5 Mbps, and customers who pay for this plan and exceed 15 GB a month on their data before the end of the month will see their download speeds will go way down to the 2G level. All prepaid customers can also add unlimited talk and text to Mexico and Canada for $5 each per month.

U.S. Cellular has also introduced a new 3 GB high-speed prepaid data plan for $40 per month, and some retailers are offering a 1 GB high-speed prepaid plan from the carrier for $35 a month. The company adds that any prepaid customer who signs up for plans that’s $40 a month or higher can get a “free” phone like a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) or Moto E4 Plus in the form of a $75 U.S. Cellular promotional card.
