MediaTek sits alongside Qualcomm as one of the most important third-party chipmakers in the Android smartphone ecosystem. The Taiwanese company’s processors are in loads of phones around the world. Let’s take a look at some of the best MediaTek phones on the market right now.

Best MediaTek phones:

Editor’s note: We’ll be updating this list of the best MediaTek phones regularly as new devices launch.

1. Xiaomi Redmi 6A

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A. Mediatek smartphones. Xiaomi

Xiaomi‘s Redmi A sub-category is its cheapest smartphone range around, but it delivers a few features you might not find on other sub-$100 devices.

The Redmi 6A is the latest model in the family, powered by MediaTek’s Helio A22 chipset. This processor is designed for low-end phones, featuring a quad-core Cortex-A53 design, but it stands out thanks to a tiny 12nm design. Before the Snapdragon 439 and 429, not even Qualcomm had a 12nm or lower chipset for ~$100 phones — its closest product was the 14nm octa-core Snapdragon 450.

The Xiaomi handset also has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 5.45-inch 720p display (18:9), a 3,000mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP selfie snapper.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A specs:

  • Display: 5.45-inch, 1,440 x 720
  • SoC: MediaTek MT6761 Helio A22
  • RAM: 2/3GB
  • Storage: 16/32GB
  • Rear cameras: 13MP
  • Front camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 3,000mAh
  • Software: Android 8.1 Oreo

2. Realme C2

The Realme C2 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 processor paired with two or three gigabytes of RAM. The two variants are accompanied by 16 or 32GB of storage.

Other specs include a large 6.1-inch display, a hefty 4,000mAh battery, and Android 9.0 Pie. It’s a nice phone that starts at just 5,999 rupees (about $87 USD), but packs a good punch for the price.

Realme C2 specs:

  • Display: 6.1-inch, HD+
  • SoC: MediaTek Helio P22
  • RAM: 2/3GB
  • Storage: 16/32GB
  • Rear cameras: 2, and 13MP
  • Front camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

3. Vivo Y3

Vivo Y3 front and back. Mediatek smartphones.

The Vivo Y3 starts at CNY 1,498 (about $218 USD), making for a nice smartphone to buy on a budget, but it has enough power to match many mid-tier devices. Its MediaTek Helio P35 Processor and 4GB of RAM should keep things running smoothly. It also sports 128GB of storage, a 6.35-inch display, and dual-SIM capabilities. But the phone’s most outstanding features are a massive 5,000mAh battery, and a triple camera setup.

Vivo Y3 specs:

  • Display: 6.35-inch, HD+
  • SoC: MediaTek Helio P35
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Rear cameras: 13, 8, and 2MP
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 5,0000mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

4. LG Q7

A look at the LG Q7 in various colors. Mediatek smartphones. LG

LG’s phone isn’t the most powerful device on the list, offering a MT6750S SoC (with eight Cortex-A53 cores), 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable storage. The Q7 also offers a 3,000mAh battery, a rear fingerprint scanner, a 13MP f/2.2 main snapper, an 8MP selfie snapper, and a 5.5-inch full HD+ display. So far, so unspectacular, right?

The Q7 has one major ace up its sleeve, however, being the only phone on the list with IP68 water/dust resistance. So if you’re looking for a budget phone that’ll survive a dunking, this isn’t the worst device out there.

LG Q7 specs:

  • Display: 5.5-inch, 2,160 x 1080
  • SoC: MediaTek MT6750S
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Storage: 32GB
  • Rear cameras: 16/13MP
  • Front camera: 8/5MP
  • Battery: 3,000mAh
  • Software: Android 8.1 Oreo

5. Realme 3

Mediatek smartphones. Realme 3 front.

The Realme 3 costs well under $200, and considering that price point you get much more than what you pay for. The phone has a large 6.22-inch display with a 720p resolution, 3/4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage, a large 4,230mAh battery, and, of course, a MediaTek processor. You could get either the Helio P60 or Helio P70, depending on your market.

Realme 3 specs:

  • Display: 6.22-inch, 1,520 x 720
  • SoC: MediaTek Helio P60/P70
  • RAM: 3/4GB
  • Storage: 32/64GB
  • Rear cameras: 13/2MP
  • Front camera: 13MP
  • Battery: 4,230mAh
  • Software: Android 9.0 Pie

6. Nokia 5.1 Plus

The Nokia 5.1 Plus, also known as the Nokia X5. Mediatek smartphones. HMD Global/Nokia

HMD is obviously no stranger to MediaTek chips, and the Nokia 5.1 Plus is the most powerful one of the lot. For a starting price of 999 yuan (~$146), you’re getting a Helio P60 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a notched 5.86-inch full HD+ screen.

There’s more to the phone than its horsepower though, as it’s also packing a 3,060mAh battery, USB Type-C support, a headphone jack, a 13MP and 5MP dual camera setup, and an 8MP selfie shooter. It’s an Android One phone, too, so it should receive regular feature and security updates.

Nokia 5.1 specs:

  • Display: 5.5-inch, 2,160 x 1080
  • SoC: MediaTek Helio P18
  • RAM: 2/3GB
  • Storage: 16/32GB
  • Rear cameras: 16MP
  • Front camera: 8MP
  • Battery: 2,970mAh
  • Software: Android 8.0 Oreo

7. Oppo F9 Pro

Mediatek smartphones. Oppo F9 Pro.

Oppo’s new F9 Pro doesn’t quite offer the most bang for your buck, but it’s got a great look. With gradient color schemes and a waterdrop notch on its 6.3-inch LCD screen (full HD+), this device doesn’t look like your average mid-range phone.

Pop the hood and you’ll find a Helio P60 chipset, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 3,500mAh battery with VOOC fast charging. In the camera department, a 16MP and 2MP pairing is on the rear, and a huge 25MP camera pulls selfie duties.

The phone isn’t perfect. It lacks USB-C support and NFC capabilities, but you can do a lot worse for around $330, something our own Lanh Nguyen found in his Oppo F9 review.

Oppo F9 Pro specs:

  • Display: 6.3-inch, 2,340 x 1080
  • SoC: MediaTek MT6771 Helio P60
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 64GB
  • Rear cameras: 16/2MP
  • Front camera: 25MP
  • Battery: 3,500mAh
  • Software: Android 8.1 Oreo

Those are the best MediaTek phones out there. We’ll add more as new phones come to market!
