August has arrived, and so has the latest rundown of new and returning classic films and TV on Netflix, along with new original movies and TV shows that are only found on Netflix. While there’s nothing quite as major coming from the streaming service this month compared to July’s release of Stranger Things’s third season, there’s plenty of new content to check out during August.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights of the new and original additions on Netflix for August 2019, followed by the full list of the new shows and movies on the streaming service this month, plus what’s leaving Netflix in August as well.

August 16 – Mindhunter (Season 2)

mindhunter

It’s been nearly two years since Netflix launched the first season of Mindhunter, but this acclaimed crime drama from director and executive producer David Fincher is finally returning for a nine-episode second season in August. The series still centers on the early days of the  FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, who try to catch serial killers by learning how they think. The second season will feature the team examining the Son of Sam murders in New York City, along with the Atlanta child murders of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Charles Manson is also supposed to appear at some point during Mindhunter season 2.

August 20 – The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Season 1)

The late Jim Henson directed and released The Dark Crystal movie in 1982, and the fantasy film represented a huge leap forward for the Muppets creator, with more advanced puppets as its characters. The film has generated a cult following since its release and finally we are getting a new Dark Crystal TV series via Netflix.  The storyline for the series takes place before the film as the elf-like Gelflings try to defeat the evil dark Skeksis race. The show has an all-star voice cast, including Taron Egerton as the lead character, the Gelfling Rian. Other members of the voice cast include Simon Pegg, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, Andy Samberg, Sigourney Weaver, and Mark Hamill.

August 9 – GLOW (Season 3)

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are back. The third season of the Emmy-nominated comedy once again focuses on the fictional exploits of the women who participated in the real all-ladies pro wrestling TV show of the 1980s. This season, GLOW relocates to Las Vegas, and Geena Davis joins the cast in several episodes as the entertainment director for the Vegas hotel where GLOW is now filming its TV series.

August 23 – 13 Reasons Why  (Season 3)

The controversial teen drama will return on August 23 for its third season on Netflix. This will be the first season that will not feature actor Katherine Langford’s character of Hannah, who committed suicide at the start of the show and was the central character for the series’s first two seasons. The third season will feature the remaining cast of teenagers dealing with the aftermath of season 2’s ending, and also confronting a new situation at their high school when a football player goes missing.
