OnePlus 7 Pro 5G owners will need to wait until next year for Android 10

Update, October 29, 2019 (8:44AM ET): The OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 may be finally receiving Android 10, but there’s one 7 series phone that’s been left in the dark. Now, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will eventually be upgraded to OxygenOS 10 — though users will have to wait until the new year to see it.

Writing in a thread on the OnePlus community forums (h/t: XDA-Developers), the company’s global community manager said they planned to release the Android 10 update for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G in Q1 2020.

More specifically, the OnePlus representative says this update will be coming to the EE variant. There’s no word if the update will hit other variants in that same time-frame.

Either way, it’s a little disappointing to see the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G only getting Android 10 next year. This means the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, scheduled to receive the stable update in November, will get the update before a 2019 model.

The OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro launched on May 14, 2019, with the then-latest version of Android, Android 9 Pie. It’s expected both devices will receive at least two major Android updates in the future.

Unlocked variants of the two phones started receiving Android 10 in late September, though many users didn’t see the OTA for weeks after before OnePlus quietly shelved it due to a few pesky bugs. The rollout began anew in mid-October as OxygenOS version 10.0.1.

The pair are expected to see Android 11 in 2020. It’s possible that it will also receive an update to Android 12 in 2021, as the OnePlus 3T received four flavors of Android during its update lifespan (Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, and Pie).
