Samsung unveils two new Windows laptops, one of which has a built-in S Pen

Samsung Galaxy Book Flex 13 with S Pen Built InSamsung

During the annual Samsung Developers Conference, the company took the wraps off two new Windows laptops: the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex and the Galaxy Book Ion. The Flex is a convertible laptop with a 360-degree hinge which turns it into a tablet, while the Ion is a traditional clamshell design.

Both laptops are pretty powerful, with the latest tenth-generation Intel processors, Wi-Fi 6 support, QLED displays, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of internal solid-state storage. They are also both lookers, with sleek designs and a Royal Blue color palette.

Both laptops are also very thin and light, with the Samsung Galaxy Book Ion starting at just over 2.1 pounds.

The Galaxy Book Flex, though, is the most interesting of the pair. Along with its almost-all-blue keyboard and chassis, the device features a built-in Bluetooth S Pen, the same you’d find in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 smartphone. That means you can use gesture controls on the S Pen to conduct a PowerPoint presentation, for example.

Check it out in the gallery below:

Since the Flex can convert into a tablet-like interface, the S Pen will be useful for people who like to create digital art on their laptops. Unfortunately, the display resolution of all the laptops maxes out at Full HD+, or 1,920 x 1,080. A 4K model would be a nice upgrade, but you can’t have it all.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Book Ion is missing the S Pen but is designed more for business professionals. It’s ultra-thin at just 12.9mm thick (for the entry-level model) but still packs in a ton of power.

Both laptops also feature a fingerprint sensor built-into the keyboard. The Galaxy Book Ion shows it loud-and-clear with its blue colorway.

The Samsung Galaxy Book Ion and Galaxy Book Flex both will be available in 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch models. Samsung didn’t reveal pricing for either device but did say they would be available in select markets by December of this year.
