El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (October 11)

Some people claim Breaking Bad is the greatest TV show ever made, and it’s hard to argue otherwise. The crime drama truly became a national phenomenon, thanks in part to fans binge-watching the show on Netflix. So it’s appropriate that the long-awaited Breaking Bad sequel movie would make its debut on the service, rather than its home cable network of AMC. The movie was written and directed by the show’s original creator Vince Gilligan, and it stars Aaron Paul as the tragic crystal meth cooker Jesse Pinkman. Little is known about the movie’s plot, other than it takes places mere moments after the end of the Breaking Bad series.

In the Tall Grass (October 4)

There are a bunch of new horror-themed shows and movies on Netflix this Halloween month, but none might be quite so scary as this film. Based on a novella written by horror master Stephen King and his son Joe Hill, the movie takes place in a remote rural location. A brother and sister on a cross-country trip find themselves in this place, in a field of long, tall grass. They think they hear a boy call for help in the field, and they enter the grass. Maybe they should have just kept travelling…

The Laundromat (October 18)

Director Steven Soderbergh brings his latest film to Netflix. It’s a comedy, but based on the true story of the Panama Papers; a massive batch of leaked documents that came to light in 2015. The papers originated from a Panamanian law firm, and showed how many wealthy people kept their finances secret through offshore accounts, some of which were used for illegal purposes. In this fictional retelling of this real story, Meryl Streep plays a new widow who loses her insurance money. She finds out that this law firm in Panama had something to do with it and goes after them. The all-star cast includes Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone, and David Schwimmer.

Dolemite Is My Name (October 25)

Eddie Murphy makes his first movie in several years with this Netflix original. Murphy plays the role of a real person, Rudy Ray Moore. He’s a down-and-out comedian and performer in the 1970s who comes up with an over-the-top character, Dolemite, for his act. He manages to release a movie starring his character Dolemite, in 1975, at the height of the blaxploitation films trend. The movie, and Murphy’s performance, is already getting great reviews. Look for Wesley Snipes in this movie as well, playing the director of the original Dolemite movie.

Living with Yourself – Season 1 (October 18)

Paul Rudd may be best known now for playing Ant-Man, but the comedic actor is taking a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star in this new eight-episode Netflix exclusive series. Rudd plays Miles, who at the moment is not experiencing the best of times. However, Miles decides to take a trip to a new and mysterious spa to make himself feel better. As it turns out, he’s the same as before, but this spa has created a second, and apparently much better, version of Miles to replace the original. Hopefully, the premise of this series will have some very funny situation as Miles and Miles have to deal with each other.
