Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10e update

  • Current stable version: Android 9 Pie
  • When will the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e get Android 10? December 2019 – January 2020 (estimated)

The Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e launched with Android 9 Pie, the then-latest version of Android. They are expected to receive two major updates in the future in keeping with most flagship Android phones.

Based on Samsung’s recent updates, the phones should receive Android 10 by the end of the year or possibly in January 2020. However, it could come much sooner than that since Samsung has recently revitalized its ambitions when it comes to Android updates.

In September, a new Galaxy S10 update rolled out to Exynos variants of the latest “S” line family, including the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e (via SamMobile). The new update brought the September Android security patch as well as some new features borrowed from the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. The first category of features involves the camera. These new features included Live focus, Live focus video, Night mode for the front camera, AR Doodle (for the front camera only), and Super steady video mode. Many of these features launched with the Note 10 originally. Additionally, the S10 family received Dex for PC and a Dynamic Lock Screen, two other Note 10 features.

These new updates were just for the Exynos variants of the S10 line — the Qualcomm variants will likely see them at a later date, as there has already been a September security patch rollout for the Qualcomm units.

Now, the November update brings several security patches to Verizon Galaxy S10 devices. This update doesn’t bring as many bells and whistles to the devices as the previous update, but it fixes a major security issue that plagues device fingerprint sensors.

Samsung immediately began working on a fix for this security flaw when it surfaced last month, but it looks like it took until now to get the update out to affected Verizon devices. Verizon suggests users install this update as soon as possible. It also says users should re-register their fingerprints without a screen protector after receiving this update to assure the effective biometric security.

All Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, Galaxy S10e, and even Galaxy Note 10 devices on Verizon should receive the OTA update soon. Hopefully, it isn’t too long before the remaining affected Samsung devices receive this patch.
