Android 11 lets you mute notifications while recording video

Notifications are useful, letting us know what’s going on in our digital world and informing us when someone is trying to reach us. But sometimes all they do is get in the way. I’ll often be watching a YouTube video or shooting video when I’m disrupted by one of my over-active Telegram chats, and the vibration always screws up my shot. I could turn on do-not-disturb mode, but doing that over and over every time I want to shoot a clip can get tedious. Thankfully Android 11 seems to have a solution for that.

In Android 11, Google is introducing a new camera API called setCameraAudioRestriction(), which does pretty much what you would expect. Now developers can allow their apps to mute sounds, vibrations, or both while the camera app is open. This should save you from the shakey wobble you get while receiving a vibration and shooting video at the same time. It’s a small change sure, but a welcome one.

There are a ton of other new features coming to Android 11 as well, so stay tuned to the site as we dig through everything you need to know!
