PS4 Launch is Less Than a Week Away – Where to Play Now!

Image
It’s hard to believe that Sony’s Playstation 4 is coming out in less than a week. It seems like only yesterday we saw Sony’s triumphant E3 reveal of its new box, showing off its next-gen visuals and announcing its relatively affordable price. Gamers in North America will finally get their hands on the PS4 soon, and demo units are in stores now! Play It Now! Sony has been quietly dropping PS4 kiosks in Best Buys, Gamestops, and other stores across the country, giving gamers a chance to try out the new console in person. To find out where you can play one in your area, visit Sony’s  Experience PS4 site .  The kiosks have a few demos, showing a selection of indies along with Fifa 14 and the Knack. Fifa looked great, but just seemed like the current gen game with some higher-res texures slapped on top. The Knack is more of a true next-gen title – built from the ground up for the PS4 – and it’s a fun, inventive platformer to boot. The kiosk I visited, in my local Best Buy, had posters for

Apple iOS 7.0.3 update fixes iMessage, brings back iCloud Keychain, and remedy for motion sickness

Image
Apple has just roll out a somewhat significant update to iOS 7. In version 7.0.3 sees the return of iCloud Keychain, a feature that promises to store and encrypt users passwords, payment information, etc., making it easier to fill in things on websites while browsing on Safari. Speaking of Safari, the mobile browser also added its own security feature that acts as a standalone password generator to help folks create secure logins. Another subtle change comes in the lock screen, as it will now wait to display “slide to unlock” when Touch ID is enabled — it now waits for you to use your print instead. In addition to these security features, iOS 7.0.3 also brought back the ability to search Wikipedia and the web from Spotlight, addressed the accelerometer bug, and several iMessage bugs, which caused many message fails. Lastly, Apple responded to the huge uproar from folks who’ve been suffering from iOS 7 giving them “motion sickness.” The company dialed back animations even further in its

Apple Announces iPad Air With New Design, A7 CPU, M7 Coprocessor, And More

Image
Apple took the stage today here in San Francisco to announce the new iPad lineup that we’ve all be waiting for. The star of the show, of course, was the new iPad Air that features a thinner design, faster processor, and just about everything we’ve been expecting and more from the next generation iPad. The iPad Air serves as one of the best largertablets in the world for those who want a full screen experience. The updates to the tablet may  seem  a bit modest, but you can bet your butt that it will be the best-selling iPad Apple has produced. The new design of the iPadhas the world’s most popular tablet looking better than ever. The  iPad  Air ships with the expected 9.7 inch Retina display, but is a bit thinner (7.5mm) and lighter than its predecessor. The iPad Air only weighs one pound and Apple has shrunk the bezels of the tablet down by 47%! The iPad Air will also ship with the new A7 CPU,  M7 coprocessor, 5 megapixel iSight camera, Facetime HD front-facing camera, and more. The

Apple to live stream today’s iPad announcement event

Image
Apple is holding its big iPad announcement event today. Unlike its September event which was held on its Cupertino campus, this October event is being held at the larger Yerba Buena Center and will be streamed live as it happens. As noticed by  Engadget  and  Macrumors , an announcement about the October Special Event landed on Apple TV units earlier today. It’s not clear whether this stream will be pushed to Apple’s event website or if it will be an Apple TV exclusive, but I would expect to see it appear on both mediums. In the past, an Apple TV stream was accompanied by a companion stream on the website, and  today should  be no different. Keep your browser window open and tuned into  Apple’s event web page  to see if the stream appears later today. The event begins at 10:00AM PT (1:00PM ET). We will have coverage of the announcements in case you are unable to watch the stream. Update : The  link for the live stream  has gone live on Apple’s event web page. It’s also featured on Ap

New iPhone 6 Concept Features Drool-worthy Specs, Edge-to-Edge Display

Image
I’m always on the lookout for a good iPhone concept. Not because I necessarily think there’s a chance Apple will end up making them, but more because I love seeing what graphic designers imagine to be possible. Some are so out-there, featuring folding screens and laser projection keyboards, whereas others like Martin Hajek’s realistic digital renders are more in tune with what we expect Apple to release. This latest one from Gonçalo and João Madureira has some drool-worthy features and specs, but ultimately is nothing more than a tech nerd’s fantasy. Now that we’ve teased you with an awesome, futuristic phone pumped full of amazing specs, it’s time to deconstruct and explain why Apple won’t make this the next iPhone. 1. Touch ID Having just launched the iPhone 5s with the new Touch ID sensor, Apple was forced to change the design of the home button. It has a metal ring around the outside, and no icon in the center. As you can see in the concept, the little app icon is back in the cente

Facebook Ads On iPhone Are 1,790% More Profitable Than Those On Android

Image
While you may see the same adverts inside the Facebook app no matter which smartphone you use, those ads are 1,790% more profitable on the iPhone than they are on Android-powered smartphones. That’s according to an analysis of over 200 billion Facebook ads from Nanigans, one of the biggest customers of Facebook ads. That’s a massive difference in return on investment, and it makes you wonder why anyone would want to advertise on Android. Why would you spend money on Android ads when you could get a 1,170% greater ROI on iOS? It’s not like adverts on the iPhone cost significantly more, either. TUAW reports that the average cost per thousand impressions (CPM) on Android is $4.87, while on iPhone it’s just 12¢ more at $4.99. Furthermore, advertisers typically make around 162% of the cash they spend on iOS ads, according to Nanigans’ data, while on Android they  lose  10%. These figures don’t give Android a great image for advertisers. In fact, Nanigans says it had to think twice about p

Motorola Attempts To Lure iPhone Owners To Moto X With New Migration Tool

Image
Could you be persuaded to give up your iPhone and switch to Android if you were given a really simple tool to transfer all of your important data? Motorola is certainly hoping so with its new web-based migration tool that takes all of your contacts and calendar events from iCloud and puts them on a Moto X. The new tool is part of the MotoMaker website, which lets you customize your Moto X handset before you purchase it. After you’ve purchased your device, you’ll see a confirmation page that asks if you’d like to use Migrate. Tell it you have an iPhone and login with your iCloud details and it will automatically take your contacts and calendar data and transfer it over. It’s not a complete migration tool, then — if you want to bring other data across you’ll have to do that using different means. But Motorola’s Punit Soni, who announced the new tool on Google+, admits “there is a long way to go,” and that this is just the start. So, will you be swapping your iPhone for a Moto X any tim

iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c come to more than 37 countries by Nov. 1

Image
If you live somewhere you can't get the iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s yet and you've been waiting, your patience may soon be rewarded. Apple announced Wednesday plans to release the new phones in more international markets on Friday, October 25th. What's more, the phones are coming to India, Mexico and more than a dozen other countries on Friday, November 1st. The iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s were introduced in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on September 20th. The colorful polycarbonate iPhone 5c replaces the iPhone 5, while the new premium iPhone 5s sports Apple's Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a 64-bit processor. The iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s are coming to the following countries on October 25, 2013: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, French West Indies, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malta, Netherlands, New Zea

Sixth-Gen iPad Offering 30 to 40 Percent Higher Pixel Density Coming In 2014?

Image
The oft-reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that next year, Apple could be planning on releasing a sixth-generation iPad offering between 30 and 40 percent higher pixel density in its 9.7-inch display. Ming-Chi Kuo’s postulation comes following reports arguing that this year’s iPad offering could see a 12.9-inch iteration reach Apple Store shelves. This would mean that consumers would be able to choose from a 12.9-inch “iPad maxi,” a 9.7-inch iPad, and a 7.9-inch iPad mini. Kuo, however, disagrees. In a new research note that reached us  from MacRumors , the analyst rather argues that next year’s iPad 6 could offer users “more competent visuals” through increasing the tablet’s pixel density by between 30 and 40 percent. He explains: Contrary to speculation that next year’s iPad next year may come in a 12” form, or larger, we think it will not change from the current 9.7” format as we think a 12” iPad would not provide a good mobility experience given today’s technology

iPhone 5c Production Sliced In Half Due To Lackluster Sales?

Image
Apple’s gameplan seemed simple enough: release two different models of the iPhone, a premium model, the  iPhone  5s , and a colorful budget model iPhone 5c. Current iPhone owners would gravitate twords the iPhone 5s, while newcomers to the Apple game and customers in emerging markets would snatch up the iPhone 5c because, you know, everyone wants an iPhone, right?  While the iPhone 5s has been selling like hotcakes, the iPhone 5c has not, a new rumor suggests. A new rumor today from  CTechCN  claims that Apple has halved its iPhone 5c production, from 300,000 units a day down to 150,000. Apple has released legit sales figures for its iPhones, but the figures do not provide a model breakdown, leaving us in the dark as to how many units of each particular  iPhone  Apple  has moved. It figures to reason that if the new  iPhone  models  were leading sales, they would make a big deal out of it, proclaiming the success of their new handsets. Looking at retail availability, the writing is on t

Rumor: Apple To Unveil New iPads at Private Event On October 22nd

Image
Apple may be unveiling its new iPads on October 22nd, according to a report from AllThingsD . In Apple fashion, the event will be invitation only, and will introduce updates to the iPad line as well as the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks. Apple’s fifth-generation iPad is rumored to have a sleeker design than other models, an improved camera and Apple’s new 64-bit A7 chip. The second generation iPad mini is expected to have a Retina screen as well as an A7 and M7 chip, and could possibly come in colors akin to the iPhone 5s.  Both devices may see the iPhone 5s’s fingerprint sensor packed in as well. If the October 22nd event is real, we should be hearing word of the event soon.

Apple's iPhone 5s is 3 Times More Popular Than The iPhone 5c

Image
Apple’s iPhone 5s is three times more popular than the iPhone 5c, according to recent data  from Localytics . It’s certainly unsurprising news, as preorders for the “low-cost” iPhone 5c appeared to be unimpressive and subsequent demand for the handset in the Apple Online Store seemed weak. On the other hand, Apple’s high-end iPhone 5s sold out in the Apple Online Store, and shipping estimates have been  pushed back to October . Localytics explains that the iPhone 5s appears to be outselling the iPhone 5c by a factor of 3.4, with the data collected based on some 20 million Web impressions made by iPhone handsets. TechCrunch explains : Localytics also broke down iPhone 5s and 5c adoption by carrier, and found that AT&T had the highest buy-in rate, with the 5s and 5c making up 0.67 percent of all phones on the network. And probably not surprisingly, given the number of stock outages reported for the iPhone 5s, it is leading the way on the Localytics platform by a fairly wide margin

Why Do So Many People Wait In Line for iPhones?

Image
Samsung has been trying to beat Apple at its own game for a long time now, and in some ways they’ve succeeded (more market share), but in others such as brand loyalty and getting people so excited as to stay hours at a time in line for the new device, they still have a lot to learn from Apple. That’s why they’ve now sent a  crew of videographers  to find out what’s going on and why do these people always stay in line for a new iPhone? “Other companies release new phones, but there’s not as much passion and heat (from buyers),” a Korea-based producer from Samsung Broadcasting Center/Cheil Worldwide, who asked not to be named. “It’s only Apple. Why? We’re curious. Samsung will then use the video internally so the executives can understand why people are so passionate about the new iPhones, and try to replicate that with their own marketing campaigns. But I believe they’re going to have their work cut out for them. Besides the fact that Apple has always had very passionate and loyal cu

iPhone 5C Features compared to Android Phones of Same Price

Image
iPhone 5C: Colorful, Cost Conscious, and (Potentially) More Storage It's easy to write off the iPhone 5C as simply the cheaper, plastic-encased option with last year's specs — and to a degree, that's true — but last year's specs are still exceptional. If you pick up an iPhone 5C, you're getting the iPhone 5's gorgeous Retina Display and 8MP camera with Apple's exceptional image processing technology. In effect, the iPhone 5C will still take some of the best photos of most smartphones on the market and maintain a fairly high level of performance. But iPhone 5C also adds a few small, but noteworthy hardware improvements, including expanded LTE support and an improved front-facing camera. The 5C's expanded LTE bands add increased network compatibility abroad in Europe and Asia. It obviously benefits those that reside in those regions, but it also means greater reliability and compatibility for travelers. The front-facing camera now sports improved backsi

iOS 7 vs Android 4.3: Which one is better?

Image
With Google and Apple both rolling out new mobile operating system updates, we take a look at their business benefits. Apple is readying its iOS platform, while Google recently announced the imminent arrival of Android 4.3 and has already started rolling it out to some devices. But which of these two mobile operating systems should your business be backing? Android 4.3: key features Although Google is only pushing Android 4.3 out to Google Nexus branded devices at the moment, other manufacturers will start rolling it out soon. So far only Sony has formally announced plans to launch Android 4.3 on its Xperia Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Tablet Z devices and a handful of lower-end models, but we assume HTC and Samsung will be following suit in the not too distant future. Android 4.3 is designed as an interim update before Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie arrives and – as such – there are few big tweaks. What’s new in Android 4.3? The biggest new feature is Restricted Profiles. This allows you to re
