Pebble Watch Has 275,000 Pre-Orders, 1 Million Apps Downloaded

Image
When you think of Kickstarter success stories, none come to mind quite like the Pebble smartwatch. Pebble has now revealed just how popular its device has become, with the announcement that the Pebble watch has sold a total of 275,000 pre-orders. The company announced that since it ended its Kickstarter campaign and began taking pre-orders on the company’s site, 190,000 additional devices have been pre-ordered. This is a massive number from a previously no-name company that had yet to release a product, especially considering how niche the wearable computing market currently is. Company co-founder Eric Migicovsky told TechCrunch that initially, the company’s main goal has been to fulfill its KickStarter orders and now the orders of those who have pre-ordered off its site. Migicovsky says that the company is now finally taking control of its shipping situation, and that it can begin focusing on growing the company and the future of its products. The company has yet to announce how suc

Djay 2 Gets Teased, Sequel To Popular iOS Djay App

Image
You may be familiar with Djay, the largely popular music mixing and party app on iOS. Well now the app’s developer Algoriddim has begun to tease a sequel to the chart topping app, appropriately called Djay 2. If you haven’t seen or heard of the original Djay, here’s a video of someone mixing two songs using the $0.99 app. (Note: It’s a lot harder than it looks.) Unfortunately, Algoriddim hasn’t provided any information as to what improvements we can expect with Djay 2. As for right now, the team has simply released a short video announcing that it is in fact in the works. The video says that the app is “coming soon” and that it will be available on both iPhone and iPad. Algoriddim says that if you want to know more about Djay 2 as soon as new information comes out, the best thing to do is to subscribe to the company’s newsletter here .

Vine Is Coming To WIndows Phone, Says Nokia

Image
If you’re a Windows Phone user that has been wanting to get in on the looping video craze that is Vine, you’re finally going to get your chance. Nokia announced today that the Twitter owned video recording service will be making its way to Windows Phone. Besides announcing that a Windows Phone version of Vine does in fact exist, Nokia didn’t reveal any other details such as when it will be released or whether it’s the same original Vine team developing the app. The announcement was made in a Nokia press release covering the release of its new Lumia 1020 device. The Verge contacted representatives from Twitter, who confirmed that a Vine app is in fact on its way to Windows Phone. Nokia also announced that apps for Path and Flipboard are also making their way to the platform. While being a Windows Phone user might be a rough life sometimes, at least you’re getting the popular apps, eventually. Image Credit: Mashable

Jay-Z Disappointed By Samsung’s Handling Of His New Album Launch

Image
For Jay-Z, Samsung’s deal was a pretty sweet gig. The rapper got a bunch of free promotion for his album, he raked in a nice hefty check, and he was able to sell 1 million copies to Samsung before it was even released. Besides the business side of things, however, Jay-Z isn’t too thrilled about how Samsung handled the launch of his new album. For those who don’t know, Samsung signed a partnership that allowed the company to release 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s new album Magna Carta Holy Grail for free to Samsung Galaxy owners three days before the album was released to the public. All Galaxy owners had to do was download a special app that at midnight on June 24th, would then unlock access to the album for free. Unfortunately, when midnight rolled around, there were so many users trying to access and download the new album that the app and its servers were continuously crashing, preventing most people from being able to access it. For Jay-Z it isn’t just about the money that he made o

Scribblenauts Unmasked What we’re not 100% sure if this game will be making its way to iOS. As it stands, 5th Cell , the developers behind the franchise, have only mentioned the the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and PC platforms. We’d be surprised if iOS was on the outside looking in for this kind of

Just Like Every Year Before It, Foxconn Hiring More People For iPhone Rollout

Image
Just like every year, Foxconn is apparently ramping up, and hiring workers at a fervent pace as they begin mass production of the next iPhone. According to reports from YICAI, the companies large scale recruitment is solely, and “mainly to do iPhone 6 handset.” If you believe that for a second, and you probably shouldn’t considering we’re on pace for an iPhone 5S, it likely means we’re on track for another fall release. From YICAI , and translated with Google Translate (brace yourself, it’s a painful read): “IDPBG business group is now in mass recruitment, the number of no cap, mainly to do iPhone 6 handset.” Yesterday, Zhengzhou in Henan Foxconn recruitment agency responsible for the “First Financial Daily” said that Apple’s next-generation mobile products has already begun Foxconn factory production, and now need a lot of assembly line workers. Honestly. You could write these posts a decade in advance, schedule them to run every summer, and still not miss a beat.

iPhone 5S May Have 120 FPS Slowmo Video Feature

Image
If there’s one universal thing everyone can agree on, it’s that everything looks better in slowmo. It seems that Apple realizes this too, as pieces of code in the iOS 7 beta seem to hint that slow motion video recording will be making its way to upcoming iOS devices. 9to5Mac reports that they have found a hidden feature in the code of iOS 7 called “Mogul”. Mogul seems to be an unfinished iOS camera feature that will allow for slow motion video to be recorded. The feature allows for video to be captured at 120 FPS, even though iOS 7 only officially supports 60 FPS. 9to5Mac attempted to activate the feature on an iPhone 5, however, the hardware doesn’t support the feature. This means that Apple may be preparing this as a feature for its upcoming iPhone model, which is rumored to have a number of other camera improvements such as dual-LED flash and a 13 MP Sony sensor. If not the next iPhone, it will likely appear in another iPhone down the line. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is already capable

1Password Gets Updated To Run Smoothly On iOS 7 Beta

Image
If you’re currently using the beta version of iOS 7, you’ve likely found that a number of your apps have trouble running or perhaps don’t run at all. Unfortunately, most developers won’t dedicate resources to fixing these apps until we approach the public release of iOS 7, forcing you to deal with glitchy/non-working apps for a number of months. 1Password developer AgileBits, however, has decided to jump the gun and push out an iOS 7 optimized version of its app today. The update reportedly addresses a number of issues and glitches that iOS 7 users were experiencing, as well as a number of other bugs. Here’s the complete list of what’s in the new 4.2.2 update: What’s New in Version 4.2.2 Version 4.2.2 is a great update which includes several improvements you’ve reported, including: * Many enhancements for users running iOS 7 beta * Improved VoiceOver support for searching * Resolved a crash when scrolling 1Browser tabs * Many other minor improvements and fixes 1Password is on the App

Apple And Amazon End Their Legal Battle Over The Term “App Store”

Image
Apple and Amazon have both agreed to end their debate over the term “app store”. Some of you may remember that back in March 2011, Apple filed a lawsuit against Amazon over the use of the term “app store”, which Amazon used in its Amazon Appstore for Android. Apple argued that when customers thought about “app store”, that they associated the term with Apple in their minds and that Amazon using this term would cause market confusion. Amazon countered that the term “app store” was so generic and common that it could be used by anyone. Apple, however, has now decided that it no longer wants to pursue the case. “We no longer see a need to pursue our case,” Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said. “With more than 900,000 apps and 50 billion downloads, customers know where they can purchase their favorite apps.” Oh snap. U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton dismissed the trial today at the request of both companies, leaving Amazon free to use “appstore”. Amazon also commented on the decision

YouTube Capture For iOS Gets Multiple Channel Support In New Update

Image
If you occasionally upload YouTube videos you took with your iPhone or iPad, you may be using YouTube’s capture app. If so, good news, Google has released a new update for the app which brings multiple channel support as well as other general improvements. If you like uploading to more than one channel, YouTube Capture can now easily pick between which channel of yours you want a video to be uploaded to. Google also says that the app has been better optimized for those on iOS 5. Here’s the complete (albeit short and generic) list of improvements in the update: What’s New in Version 1.5 - Support for YouTube accounts with multiple channels. - Better uploading on iOS 5 devices. - General improvements. For those unfamiliar with YouTube Capture, the app allows users to record videos, make simple edits and upload to YouTube, all within one app. For anyone just looking to put up some daily Vlogs, it’s not a bad choice. iWork And iLife May Go Free On iOS, Show Up On iOS 7 Apple Apps Screen

Image
Apple’s iWork and iLife suites may soon be available for free on iOS devices. Reports out of German Apple blog iFun show Numbers, Pages, Keynote, iPhoto, and iMovie on Apple’s free application pop-up window that appears when you first launch the App Store on any new iOS device. It’s worth noting that Garageband wasn’t on the list. Previously, only Apple applications like iBooks and iTunes U appeared in this window. iWork and iLife were left out due to their premium price tag. Currently, iWork applications retail for $9.99 per app and iLife apps retail for $4.99 per app on the App Store. Another reason to believe that iWork and iLife apps are going free is due to the fact that Apple announced iWork for iCloud web applications at WWDC 2013. This brought the full iWork suite to all iCloud users completely free of charge. The web apps can be used on both Macs and PCs and sync with both the Mac and iOS applications seamlessly. If Apple was to make the mobile versions of iWork free, it wou

Games Of The Week: Limbo, Diner Dash Rush, Trial Of The Clone, Arena Of Heroes, And Anodyne

Image
Even though it was a Holiday week last week, we saw a bit of gaming news. There was a big sale in the App Store. Codemasters announced plans to bring more games to iOS. The Xbox One prepares the oncoming apocalypse by announcing that Xbox Live will begin to quarantine trolls and griefers together. Microsoft also announced that the Xbox One would use Kinect to redeem gift cards. Our last bit of news is also our first game, as an indie classic came to iOS. A classic franchise gets an arcade facelift. A webcomic creator’s love note to Chose Your Own Adventure comes to IOS with an audio bonus. iOS gets it’s first MOBA game, and it’s also on the Mac. FInally we have an action RPG that’s equal parts David Lynch and Legend of Zelda. Limbo – iOS (Universal) Limbo is another of the indie darlings from the PC to migrate to iOS. Though Limbo is a puzzle platformer, its story isn’t exactly Saturday Morning Cartoon material. You take control of a boy awaking in a dark place. The presentatio

The conference will bring roughly 300 executives together for talks on business, politics, as well as other topics. Next Gen. 15″ MacBook Pro Benchmarks Show Up On Geekbench

Image
Benchmarks for the next-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro have popped up Geekbench . This MacBook has been given the code name of “AAPLJ45,1″ and has received an overall Geekbench score of 12497. According to the benchmark, the laptop features a quad-core Intel Core i7-495HQ clocked at 2.4GHz and 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM. The computer is also sporting a custom build of OS X Mavericks with the build name “13A2052″. As of now, we’re not sure what the graphics situation is with the new 15-inch MacBook Pro. Current generations of the MacBook Pro include high-end AMD 650M graphics chips that are a massive step up from Intel’s built-in HD Graphics 4000. However, with the latest generation of Intel CPUs, we’ve seen the company double the power of its integrated graphics with Iris 5200 that is included with the Core i7-495HQ. We’re also not sure if this Geekbench is for the next generation MacBook Pro with Retina Display or the standard, non-Retina MacBook Pro. However, in the past, we’ve heard r

iOS In The Car May Work Over AirPlay

Image
One of the features that didn’t get talked about much at the jam-packed WWDC keynote in June was “iOS in the Car.” The feature allows iOS devices to connect to a dashboard in a car and display variations of certain built-in apps, such as Music or Maps. How will you connect your iOS device to make this all work? Besides the obvious USB sync cable, another way could be by using AirPlay over Wi-fi, according to 9to5Mac . Apparently the AirPlay option can be turned on in the Accessory Developer options in iOS 7. Being able to connect over Wi-fi makes using an iPhone much easier in a car. Presumably, an iOS device will connect once you start the car as long as they are paired together over Wi-Fi (kinda like bluetooth devices), or using the normal AirPlay functionality that are already available for the Apple TV. Apple is launching iOS in the Car in 2014 with select automakers, including Honda, Chevrolet, and Acura.
