This is it folks, the real deal. After months of leaks, rumors and speculation, the Nexus 5 by LG has finally been officially unveiled by Google — 5-inch 1080p HD display, Snapdragon 800, Android 4.4 KitKat and all.
Why Google decided against a big announcement event is beyond us, but to be frank, we could hardly care right now. For the nerd elite, those who crave Google’s vision of Android, those ahead of the game buying unlocked handsets on cheap just-as-good-as-the-big-guys prepaid plans, this is exactly the phone you’ve been waiting for. No matter how it’s announced.

Coming in black or white, with either 16GB of storage for $349, or 32GB for $399, the Nexus 5 is a beast of a phone. Most of the leaks on the specs have been spot on. The Nexus 5 will come with:
  • 4.95-inch 1080p HD display
  • Snapdragon 800 processor
  • Adreno 330
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • 8MP OIS rear camera
  • Dual-band WiFi
  • LTE Bands 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2300 mAh battery
  • Android 4.4
The specs, while impressive for such an affordable handset, are not earth shattering. The real star of today’s show is the newest version of Android. Android 4.4, KitKat, is more than just a facelift. There are some awesome new features as well like an immersive mode, and enhanced dialer and more. We’ll have a separate post with a complete rundown on Android 4.4, so for now we’ll leave it at that.
For those of you looking to buy the Nexus 5, hit up the Google Play store right now. The handset will be coming soon to T-Mobile, Sprint, Best Buy and Amazon (where you can usually snag Google’s newest gadgets tax and shipping free for Prime users). We have several staff members that will be buying one, how about you?
