Nexus 5 Camera: ClearPixel, UltraPixel, MegaPixel?

It seems like every year Google tells us the camera on the Nexus is better and it’s great. I almost think that they are lying to me. Now I haven’t owned the Nexus S or Nexus One. But I have owned the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4. Both had some pretty bad camera’s. Now I won’t say they were unusable. But when you see cameras like the one on the Galaxy S4, or the LG G2, or the HTC One, it kinda makes you jealous that your precious, stock Android Nexus does not take great pictures like those devices. Now we’ve speculated the camera on the Nexus 5 already, and how it could be a 13MP camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) like on the LG G2. But we really don’t know for sure. All I know is, I want a better camera.

There are all kinds of new camera technology out there. From Motorola there’s the ClearPixel. From HTC there’s the UltraPixel. And everyone else it’s just the Megapixel. Now the ClearPixel camera adds a white pixel in there so you can potentially get better pictures. However, from what I’ve heard from Moto X owners, that’s not the case. The HTC One and One Mini have an UltraPixel camera, which are basically bigger pixels. Which means they can take in more light. Making the camera amazing in low-light situations. But it is only a 4MP camera. Which is where most people’s minds go. Now if we could get a 8MP or 13MP UltraPixel camera, I’d be all for it! The UltraPixel camera does take some great pictures, even when not in low light areas.

Now what kind of camera are we getting on the Nexus 5? Well since it’s supposed to be modelled after the LG G2, I’d expect something along the lines of a 13MP camera that’s in the G2. We probably won’t see OIS, but it would be nice to have that on the Nexus. Remember this is all speculation, but what kind of camera do you want to see on the next Nexus?
